East Anglia Section VCR Pizza Social
Sat 18th June 2016
A report by Mike Davies
For several months Hugh Thompson has been promoting the East Anglia
Section VCR group with encouraging results.
He, aided by his wife
Heather, organised a special event for VCR members which he intends to
become an annual event. The Pizza Social!
I had watched the weather
forecast carefully for several days and decided to go in my car, picking up
Paul Round on the way. This was a good decision as a few miles from Hugh’s
the heavens opened and it rained hard.
Two motorcycles did arrive, Dik
and Ken & Anne (I think they wished they had also opted for the car!).
At
their lovely house set in the Suffolk countryside Hugh & Heather set up one
of the EA Sections gazebos and supplied soft drinks, salads and Heather had
spent some time making the dough for the pizzas.
The plan was that you
took a ball of dough and stretched it into a flat pizza base, covering it
with whatever toppings you fancied.
We were then led across the garden to
what appeared to be a large brick built building which actually was the
bread oven, already hot with burning wood logs.
Heather placed your pizza
on a flat steel (rusty) implement and pushed it into the bowls of the red
hot oven. A few minutes later it was pulled out, revealing a well-cooked
pizza!
The rain persisted on and off and later in the afternoon it
stopped. Interestingly, on the way home, about ten miles south of Hugh and
Heather’s the roads were dry and no rain had fallen from Ipswich back to my
home in Wivenhoe!
A total of fourteen people attended this enjoyable
event and we all look forward to a repeat next year.
Our thanks go to
Hugh and Heather for organising this first special meeting for the VCR
members and I ask all VCR members to continue to support Hugh’s efforts in
promoting the VCR Section.
Note from Dik: I would like to echo Mike’s gratitude to Hugh and
Heather for making us feel so welcome and organising such a successful
event. I would also thank Mike for his great report and for the lovely
photographs he took on the day. I took some myself but they are no where
near as good so I have just tacked them to the bottom of the report only
because some of them include Mike who doesn’t otherwise appear in reports
like this because he is usually behind the camera! Don’t forget you
can click on any photograph on the web site to see a full-size version.
