East Anglia Section AGM

Sunday 9th October 2016

A brief report by Dik Langan with Photos by Steve Lindsell and a couple by Amanda Langan

This is not the official report, just a simple point of view shortly after the day and a good excuse to post some pictures that Steve sent over to me.  A full set of the official minutes will be published on the web site in due course.

The morning started out promising weather-wise but sadly deteriorated a little by the time we arrived at the hall, perhaps this explained the slight drop in numbers attending this year, but perhaps also it was the fact that everything appears to be going relatively smoothly and no one really wants to change it.

I had been in touch with the caretaker of the hall and she had explained that there had been a small collapse of the roof lining in one corner of the hall so when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find it was not nearly as bad as imagined and they had already cordoned off the area.  We got the heaters turned on, set out the chairs and got the all-important tea urn on just in time for the regulars to start turning up.

We started on time and had to start with an announcement that Mark Dutton was stepping down from the Assistant Social Secretary role.  He explained that he still wanted to be in the Club but was finding it difficult to find the time to play such an active part, indeed due to his work commitments his bike has been SORN’d for two years now.  The main impact is that he will not be able to organise next year’s Copdock Show stand but we have plenty of time to arrange that between the remaining committee members.

Other than that the regular AGM items went off without a hitch, including a chance for Hugh to explain to those present the work he is doing with the Vintage & Classic Register members and his plans for the coming year.

The proposal to change the name of the East Anglia Trophy to "The George Saunders Trophy" and to indeed replace the physical trophy both went down very well with the audience and accepted without any issue.  The we moved on to the question of the 5 Miles pub and where it should appear in the calendar.  After much discussion it was agreed that the current situation doesn’t really need to change, however Cliff also introduced the idea of putting the 5 Miles on whenever we have five Sunday’s in a month (as the 5th weekend meet) which was also received very well.

After a quick discussion about Framlingham, taking nominations for the awards, mention of the Xmas Meal bookings being taken, Mike then led a show of appreciation for the committee which was unexpected and very kind.

We closed the meeting and then many of us headed down to the Wool Pack for a nice Sunday lunch.  Of course things never go quite as smoothly as you hope and we had more people there than the landlord had expected, but a quick shuffle of seats and everyone was found a place.  It was lovely to natter over food.

Right, enough twaddle from me, here are some pictures that Steve took with his new toy, there are captions hidden behind them bu you have to hover your mouse over them to see my take on each picture (or tap on the picture to see a bigger version where you will see my caption as the name of the picture):
