SATURDAY 7th FEBRUARY
New Bike Launch at Cannon’s Braintree
Report & photos by Mike Davies
A cold morning greeted me as I went outside and put my bag in the car.
The drive over to Cannons was through constant drizzle and a temperature
around 3 degrees. I was also suffering from shingles! Not a good start
to the day.
On arrival at Cannons, I set up the portable table and BMW Club Banner
and was ready for business.
Several people were already walking around the showroom, including two
or three East Anglia Club members who came over for a chat.
Throughout the morning the showroom was crowded with potential buyers of
the three new BMW models on show.
The R1200R
This comes in three versions, standard, Sport and Sport Exclusive ranging
in price from £10,250, £11,495 and £11,700. Fitted with the new water
cooled engine as used in the GS, GSA and R1200RT.
The F800R
Available in two versions, standard and Sport price at £7,595 and £7,855.
The S1000RR
Available in two versions, standard and Sport. These new models have been
updated from the already fast and powerful earlier model with 199hp and
204kg weight. It retains all the electronics noted for this exceptional
sports bike.
Prices are standard £13,700 and Sport £14,760
Looking at both the new R1200R and F800R I think most buyers will fit
larger screens as those supplied are quite small.
During the day, I spoke with several potential new club members who left
with membership form and old Journals.
Cannons has, as usual, supplied unlimited bacon and sausage rolls and a
choice of hot tea, coffee or chocolate.
I had a chat with Bill and Sue Cannon and before I left a long chat with
Keith White, General Manager who is in the process of setting up a club
evening for us, mid-week in early summer, where demo bikes and food will
be available – more on this when the date is known.
Here are some pictures from the day:
