Museum of Power Bike Meet
Sunday 2nd August
Langford, Maldon
Report by Mike Davies

This year’s Bike meet at Langford Steam Museum was blessed with
beautiful sunny weather all day which attracted a large attendance
of visitors riding all kinds of bikes.
As usual, the East Anglia Section of the BMW Club had a stand ably manned by the members listed below and their bikes – refreshingly notable for the much earlier bikes and oddly no GSs! Many thanks to all these helpers and also other members who came on to the stand and assisted throughout the day.
| Peter Dutton (thank you for bringing your gazebo and chairs etc). | |
| Gerry Sherwood-Douglas | R50 |
| Mike Davies | R75/5 |
| Ken Buchanan | R69 |
| Ken Buchanan | R75 frame with R60 engine |
| Dik Langan | R1150RT |
| Bob Townley | R1100 Grinnel Trike |
The setting for this excellent Classic Bike Show is in the grounds of Langford Steam Museum, the original pumping stations for the water board, complete with working triple acting double expansion steam engine which is in full running order. An electrical power cut restricted the operation of this engine as it requires an electric motor to turn it to the correct position for starting.
The museum has many other working engines and machinery, all worth taking and hour or two to look over.
Several Trade stands are in attendance and also many local Motorcycle Club stands, so there is always a great variety of motorcycle to look at.
This year we were able to offer two incentives for people to join the Club, the first being a discount if signed up on the day of £13.50 for the remainder of the year.
The second being the BMW Motorrad 20/20 Discount offer available to club members from 1st October 2014 to 31st March 2015 having their bikes serviced at a BMW Dealer on all 3 year plus BMW Motorbikes.
BMW Motorrad will give a 20% discount on genuine BMW parts and the Dealerships provide 20% discount off retail labour rates.
The BMW Club member must provide their membership card and the name must match the owner of the motorcycle and name on the invoice. A copy of their membership card will be filed alongside a copy of the invoice.
During the show this year we signed up 4 new members on the stand and more of course who went away with literature may also join in the future.
These local
shows enables us to show people what we do as a club and always
results in new members joining.
If you would like to help at any
of the shows we attend just contact a committee member. Our next
show is The Copdock Motorcycle Show, Ipswich on Sunday October 5th 2014.
Again many thanks for all who helped on the stand and the many visitors who called in to chat about various subjects related to BMW Motorcycles.
