East Anglia Section AGM

Sunday 12th October 2014

A brief report by Dik Langan

This year I decided to save paper so instead of taking pre-printed agendas and minutes for a randomly guessed number of people I decided to take a printer and print off copies if anyone wanted them.  This worked out really well as we only printed a couple of copies (the minutes had been online for folks to see previously and I made a big version of the agenda and taped it to the wall for all to see).

You will have noticed I said "we", this is because as well as bringing a printer I also brough my good lady wife Amanda along, not least of all because she was standing for section treasurer.  It was a dry start to the morning but a little nippy so she was glad that we were having to take the car (my printer is so ancient it is huge and will not fit on the bike).

We arrived in good time and as usual had the place all set up with the able assistance of those fellow members who turned up early – a huge thank you to them all!

I won’t bore you with the minutes, they should be available online here very soon (a lot more efficiently than last year as again Amanda has volunteered to type them up). Although I did learn something (thanks to Super Ted): the reason they are called minutes is because historically they would be written up during the meeting and the secretary was given exactly a minute between each section to type up the pertinent notes then at the end they were signed by the committee – a bit more efficient than we manage now where we spend 20 minutes at the next meeting trying to remember if they are accurate or not and then a further 5 minutes voting on it!  Perhaps we’ll think about that for a future AGM.

Everything went smoothly really and you can see the results of the voting on the updated committee page, but I must take a moment to thank the outgoing committee members for their hard work through the year: Mark Handley for his very able running of the Fakenham camping weekend and Mike Davies for his work as Dealer Liason at Canons and section rep for the Vintage register.  Mike is continuing his work in these roles but asked not to be on the committee, what a trooper!

I must also welcome our newest committee member, Gary Funnell, who has already been a great boon to both the section and indeed the Club with all his hard work on the Facebook pages and Twitter feed (although he does admit that the Twitter side is much more Charlie, his wife’s, cup of tea and so she’s running that).

One minor hiccup after the meeting rather than during it: We had a volunteer for the Marketing role, Peter Charman.  He got voted on but has since had to step down as he has been offered a post overseas with almost immediate effect.  Obviously we are very glad for him but it does mean the role is once more vacant if anyone else was at all interested?

Right, enough waffle, here are some pics of the bikes outside the hall, we had a great turn out thanks for everyone that made it.
