Shoulder of Mutton Meeting
on Sunday 16th October 2011
Report by Mike Davies
First thing this morning I went for a walk through the woods and on to the sea wall, crossing the railway line over two styles. There was frost on the wood work of both styles – the first frost this autumn for me!
The day had a beautiful clear blue sky with the autumn sunshine sending shafts of sunlight through the trees and reflecting off the River Colne.
When I got back home I changed it to my riding gear and wheeled my classic R75/5 out of the garage, attached the GPS (I had planned a country lane route to the meeting).
The meeting this morning was at the ever popular “Shoulder of Mutton” pub at Ford Street, a few miles out along the Halstead Road from Colchester where the landlord serves good food and ale.
My route took me through leafy lanes and byways emerging in Ford Street near the pub.
I was fourth to arrive with 3 familiar faces and bikes already parked up.
The sun gradually brought out more riders and soon there were a variety of BMW and other make bikes parked outside the Shoulder of Mutton.
Here are one or two of the older BMW bikes in attendance.
This is Gerry’s R50.
This is Louise’s 1952 R51.
Mike’s R75/5
An R65.
And of course some riders.
There were over 20 people attending on some 18 motorcycles.
I guess we all made the most of this beautiful day as with autumn well under way these days will become few and far between.
Mike Davies.
