East Anglia Section AGM

Sunday 9th October 2011

A brief report by Dik Langan

attending bikesThe morning started out a little misty if not quite drizzling, but certainly not enough to stop a group of us turning up on to the AGM our bikes (although in fairness to those who turned up in cars, it was generally because they had a lot of paperwork etc to bring along).
The weather continued to improve as you can see in these pictures and whilst the turn out was not quite as good as it has been in recent years, we certainly had enough for what they call a quorum (i.e. enough to make the voting legal).attending bikes
attending bikesI must say before I go any further that this report may touch on the content of the AGM but it is in no way to be considered the "minutes" which will be published in due course (Ed: here), I just thought you would like to see that the democratic process within the club is alive and kicking and that we don’t just pick names out of a hat for the committee 🙂
So, as always, there was tea, coffee and biscuits available prior to the meeting and with the sun shining a good opportunity to have a natter with some members you may not have met up with for a little while.

But time flies and soon enough we had to start the proceedings with the outgoing chairman, Mark Weavers, ably taking the helm and as usual the meeting started almost bang on time.

MikeAs you will have read both here on the web site and in the journal, this year was to see the committee reduce in size due to many of the existing members finding their other commitments not leaving them with enough time for them to feel they were doing the positions they held any real justice.

It goes without saying (though, as regulalry follows such a statement, I will say it anyway) that we should all be very grateful (I certainly am) to those members who have performed the roles within the committee for the past 12 months and they have done so very admirably.

In fact as you will most likely have noticed if you are a regular visitor to this web site and/or to the club events organised by our committee, one man has been putting in lot of effort to the club over the years without expecting any reward and as part of the Club’s 60th anniversary special awards have been presented to one such person in each section so it was with no argument that Mike Davies was presented with his award at our AGM.  Congratulations Mike!
So here is a last look at the outgoing committee before we headed down to the pub for lunch and our first committee meeting with the new committee.attending bikes

To see who was voted in to which roles you should visit the Committee web page here or you can always wait to see the minutes when I get a chance to publish them (Ed: here) but can I recommend that next year you come along to the AGM and possibly even get involved not only with the voting but how about taking on a role as a committee member?
