BIKE MEET 09

August 9th 2009

Museum of Power, Hatfield Road, Langford, Maldon, Essex. CM9 6QA

Report by Mike Davies

This was the first BikeMeet to be held at The Museum of Steam for Classics,Vintage, Veteran, Modern, Racing, Cruisers, Off-Road etc.

The East Anglia Section decided some time back to attend this show and Mark Dutton, our social secretary did an excellent job in organising it with help from various other members.

Mark also provided the "pop-up" tent, chairs and tables and arrived on site on Saturday evening with others helpers and set the stand area up. He and one or two more camped the night.

When I arrived on site around 08.30 on Sunday all was set up and ready. We were blest with a beautiful sunny day and gradually the motorbikes of all makes and vintage started to arrive until there were stands full of various Owner’s Clubs and Vintage Clubs spread all around the perimeter of the field. The organisers also had a good plan to allow certain bikes into the show area and park in the centre of the field (actually a cricket pitch) so the overall effect was a colourful mass of many motorcycles of all descriptions.

The BMW Club stand attracted many visitors and throughout the day the various members manning the stand answered the mutlitude of questions levelled at them. Also visitors could visit the Museum of Power and see the variety of steam and diesel engines on show, some actually running. There is also a minature steam railway and a minature village. In all a very interesting museum.
