History

The Club has been very fortunate in that some prominent members have set up awards and trophies for various achievements through the years. However, by 2018 it was becoming difficult to store and transport the trophies (most were not designed for being carried on a motorcycle) as well as some of the award criteria becoming no longer relevant.

So in 2018 the National Committee reviewed the awards and determined that the set you see above (in the "Current Trophies" section) provided a good set of different achievements to be rewarded. At the same time most of the physical trophies were retired.

Just for posterity here are the details of those awards:

Eric Rosenthal Memorial Trophy

Presented to the youngest BMW Club member to ride a motorcycle to the FIM Rally in the previous year.

(The club no longer attends the FIM rally in an official capacity)

The Bill Woollin 'Spirit of the Club' award

The BMW Club member or Associate BMW Club member who, in the opinion of the majority of the National Committee is judged to have most embodied the True Spirit of a BMW club member.

(This and the following two awards were combined to form the 'Spirit of the Club' award)

The Fred Secker Trophy

Presented to a Section or a male member or male Associate member of the BMW Club who is judged by the National Committee to have done the most towards benefiting motorcycling and the BMW Club as a whole in the year for which the trophy is presented.

Mary Dudgon Trophy

Presented to the Lady member or Wife or Girl friend of a member of the BMW Club who is judged by the National Committee to have done the most towards benefiting the BMW Club and motorcycling as a whole in the year for which the trophy is presented.
