I am writing my final section news at the end of a glorious sunny weekend at the beginning of October. Unfortunately I have been on call and unable to make the most of the weather on the bike, but it is great to have unbroken sunshine for the Copdock Show. Mike Davies reports that the day was a great success with what appeared to be record crowds. We had a good selection of bikes on display including the delightful R1200GS Triple Black belonging to Daniel Schrodt, a really nice guy and one of our most recent members.
By now some of you will have been to the AGM and you will know that you have a revised committee to run things for next year. Thank you to those who have contributed their time and energy to the section and made my job a lot easier, and a warm welcome to the new faces. Check out our web site for full details in the short term or wait in eager anticipation for next month’s Section News where I am sure all will be revealed.
I am pleased to report that the breakfast and ride-out on the 11th September went really well, with 10 people meeting at the Mistley Quay Cafe. Alas another group were on autopilot from previous years and went to the nearby animal shelter cafe that we moved away from this year to somewhere more scenic. A great time was had by all those on the ride, and the views from the top of the Naze Tower looked stunning. Below you can see a photo of the group of 10 enjoying their breakfast, and you can check out Mike’s full report on the section web site for more details and photos.
Mark Handley reported via the Club Forum that the meet at the Deepdale Cafe on the 25th September was very well attended with quiet roads, fantastic weather and a very good breakfast. This seems like one to keep on the calendar for next year?
I have not been able to get along to any Club meets since the 60th at the end of August so alas I cannot give any reports from my own experience. As well as the usual lack of time available to set aside for motorcycling I also had a gardening accident resulting in a damaged rib. All I remember is my dad telling me to run (but he did not say which direction) and the next thing I was on the ground under a large fallen conifer. There was a bit of a commotion in the tree next to me, and a rather indignant pigeon appeared in front of my face before making good his escape. I have now decided that I am not suited to the life of a tree surgeon!
It is still not too late to book for the Christmas Carvery at the Flying Fortress on the 11th December, but please remember to receive the special rate of £10 per head you need to contact David Massey before the 31st October. After that date you are welcome to book directly with the venue (space permitting) and pay the full price of £16.50. Please call David on 07411 327544 or email jdavid.massey@yahoo.co.uk for more information and to book your place.
Ride safe, and I hope to see you out and about soon.
