Every year someone in the section sets a challenge for us all, and anyone
can submit a challenge to the committee before the Christmas party each
year.
This used to be called the East Anglia Trophy but after the
passing of its founder earlier this year we decided unanimously to rename it
in his honour. We shall also be creating a new physical trophy (hence
there is no picture of the award here yet).
Back to the challenge
itself: The principle is always straight forward, the hard part (for it
would not be called a challenge if it were that simple) involves getting out
on your bike and finding places and/or land marks within the five counties
of our section and then taking a photograph of your bike / helmet, or even
yourself, as evidence that you were there.
You should submit your
entries to the setter before the 31st October (you could bring them to the
section AGM which is early October and save postage). Although you can
usually submit an entry in pdf electronic format a hard copy is needed for
people to view at the Christmas party.
The judging is performed by
the challenge setter and because there may be many complete entries in the
event of a tie the winner will be the entry that contains the best photo as
judged by the challenge setter. The winner is awarded the George Saunders
Memorial Trophy - yes it is actually a real trophy - at the Christmas bash.
Of course it’s the taking part that counts, so there are certificates for
visiting 5, 10 or 15 of the locations.
